As we get closer to 2010 and the re-authorization of VAWA, our efforts to educate now should pay dividends later!

Thursday, June 18, 2009
->Lobbying Event on Capitol Hill

->Representatives from Voice of American Immigration Fraud Victims visited Capitol Hill to distribute a flyer to all 100 members of the Senate. This was essentially the same flyer we passed out to the House last month. Since the Senate held their first hearing regarding the upcoming re-authorization of VAWA, we felt it was important to make sure each Senator is aware that American women are being abused by VAWA since immigrant men are falsely claiming abuse to get their green card. We also met with representatives of the FIRE Coalition who were in town lobbying. We are working to gain their support so that we can tap into their base when the time comes for action in the House and Senate.

->Lobbying Event on Capitol Hill

->Representatives from Voice of American Immigration Fraud Victims visited Capitol Hill to distribute a flyer to all 435 members of the House of Representatives. In the flyer, we stressed the need to reform the immigration provisions of VAWA, and focused on the fact that American women are being abused by VAWA since immigrant men are falsely claiming abuse to get their green card. We also had very productive meetings with several key aides.

Tuesday, April 28, 2009
->Lobbying Event on Capitol Hill

->Representatives from Voice of American Immigration Fraud Victims along with RADAR passed out a flyer to all 435 members of the House of Representatives. It urges them to vote against HR 739, and also challenges the credibility and honesty of the Domestic Violence industry. More importantly, we had encouraging meetings with aides to a Senator and Congressman that have agreed to sponsor our proposed immigration changes to VAWA. The long awaited CHANGE is coming!

Thursday, January 29, 2009
->Lobbying Event on Capitol Hill

->We started 2009 with a bang. Representatives from Voice of American Immigration Fraud Victims along with RADAR, African Americans For VAWA Reform, and a group from Florida Women's Shelters stormed the members of the House and Senate. We each passed out flyers promoting our respective proposed changes to VAWA. While there, VOAIFV had very positive meetings with aides to several Senators and Congressmen. They were all very receptive to our request to sponsor our proposed changes to VAWA. We will be putting together an official proposal to submit for further review and discussion.

2008 Recap
Working with RADAR, our lobbying efforts in 2008 were very successful! In 2008, four domestic violence bills were introduced in Congress:
-> International Violence Against Women Act (S. 2279 and H.R. 5927)
-> National Domestic Violence Volunteer Act (S. 1515 and H.R. 6088)
-> Domestic Violence Victim Protection Act (H.R. 203)
-> Commending the important achievements of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence as it celebrates 30 years of service to local domestic violence shelter and service programs (H. Res. 1397)
In all four cases, we succeeded in preventing passage of these bills, even though we were out-manned and out-spent, and even though the VAWA Mafia pulled out all the stops to secure passage of I-VAWA and the National Domestic Violence Volunteer Act.

Wednesday, October 1, 2008
->The Heritage Foundation Conference

->This conference, titled "The Conflict between Federal Domestic Violence Policies and Traditional Family Values", was held in Washington, DC and was a huge success! There were approximately sixty people in attendance, and featured speakers discussed a variety of topics. The common thread in all these topics was how they are impacted by VAWA. We learned that federal domestic violence policies conflict with traditional family values. We also learned how VAWA conflicts with the responsible use of taxpayer funds, fundamental notions of due process, the welfare of children, African-American communities, the integrity of US immigration policy, sound foreign policy, and even with our national security. Most of the groups that were represented at this conference are joining forces to form a coalition to push for VAWA reform.

Friday, June 6, 2008
->Lobbying Event on Capitol Hill

->Representatives from Voice of American Immigration Fraud Victims teamed with the RADAR lobbying team and took the U.S. House of Representatives by storm. We distributed a flyer to Stop H.R. 6088, the so-called National DV Volunteer Attorney Network Act, the $55 million boondoggle that will give free legal services to every false domestic violence accuser across the country. We distributed the flyer to almost all of the 425 members of the House, held 3 sit down meetings, and had 6 other impromptu meetings. We were fortunate to be able to link our agenda to reform VAWA with RADAR's agenda. Our main message:
Our Current Approach to Stopping Domestic Violence is Proving to be a Costly Failure.
